PREPARASI PLASTIK NANOKOMPOSIT KITOSAN-NANOPARTIKEL PERAKLEMPUNG; PREPARATION OF CHITOSAN-SILVER NANOPARTICLE-CLAY NANOCOMPOSITE PLASTICS

2015 | Disertasi | FMIPAChitosan-silver nanoparticle-clay nanocomposite for antibacterial plastics has been prepared. Studies that have been done was the synthesis of silver nanoparticles by using chitosan as a reducing agent. Variation of temperature and time of reaction were 50, 70, 90, 100 °C and 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 minute, respectively. The results of synthesis was added in clay suspension for preparation of chitosan-silver nanoparticle-clay nanocomposite plastics. This study aimed at determining the effect of temperature and time of reaction at vacuum pressure to the morphology of silver nanoparticles and the effect of addition of clay in the matrix of chitosan on mechanical properties of chitosansilver nanoparticle-clay nanocomposite plastics. It is observed that the temperature and time of reaction at vacuum pressure for synthesis of silver nanoparticle were 100 °C and 25 minute. Characteristics SPR band in UV-Vis spectrum was tuned between wavelength 420 and 430 nm. The average size of silver nanoparticles in chitosan-silver nanocomposite plastics was 24.3 nm, while the average size of silver nanoparticles in chitosan-silver nanoparticle-clay nanocomposite plastics was 2.5 nm. Mechanical properties of chitosan-silver nanoparticle-clay nanocomposite plastics with 10% (w/w) of clay was raised to 57.05 MPa. Both nanocomposite plastics of chitosan-silver nanoparticle and chitosan-silver nanoparticle-clay had antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.
