2015 | Skripsi | FMIPAiabetes mellitus is a degenerative disease that characterized by high sugar level in the blood. Besides that, in diabetes mellitus fat is easily broken down to produce fatty acids, which at the end will create ketones. However, high production of ketones will be compensated and secreted from urine, ketonuria. Furthermore, patient of diabetes mellitus might have a typical ketonic breath (smell like rotten apple) due to acetone release. Until now laboratory test has been usually used to diagnose diabetes mellitus. Except that, it also can be measured by glucometer, a convenient instrument that can calculate sugar blood level. All of that is invasive method, which is taking the blood from the arteries. Nowadays, researchers have been developing an instrument based on array gas sensor that could measure an aroma from the breath. It is called Electronic Nose (enose) to detect the bad breath of diabetes mellitus patients. The breath of diabetes mellitus patients and non-diabetes mellitus patients had been collected by blowing their breath into a special bag. Then, the obtained gas was connected and transferred into a sensor chamber in the enose. Captured aroma by the sensor array was converted into a signal response. Then, the signal response was extracted before performing Principal Componant Analysis (PCA). Based on enose experiment with 5 different gas sensor (TGS 822, TGS 2602, TGS 825, Tgs 2620, TGS 2600), it was obtained that major component of PCI was 96,9% and PC2 was 2.5%. Enose total variability can clasify patient with or without DM at 99.4%.
