This research was initiated with the determination of the initial COD value of leather tannery wastewater taken from leather tannery home industry in Yogyakarta, and identification of organic substances contributing the COD level. Afterwards, photofenton process with varied concentration of Fe(II) and H2O2 was conducted, and a second photofenton process was examined to reduce COD value until fulfilles the quality standard level. COD value of wastewater was determined by a reflux-volumetric method. The results of the research show that initial COD value of leather tannery wastewater was 6960 mg/L. The effectiveness of photofenton process to decrease COD value of wastewater is influenced by Fe(II) and H2O2, and maximum decreasing COD value is obtained by using Fe(II) and H2O2 with the concentration of 25 mM and 400 mM respectively. COD value of leather tannery wastewater can be reduced until fulfill the quality standard that is 80 mg/L, by twice photofenton process's stage.
