This research was conducted to study the effectiveness of chitosan as a natural coagulant compared to FeCl3·6H2O, Ca(OH)2 and Al2(SO4)3·14H2O. This research carried out by calculating the initial concentration of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as the concentration of anionic surfactant in the laundry wastewater with UV-Visible Spectrophotometer method and methylene blue as complexing agent. The second step was coagulation process of laundry wastewater using chitosan, FeCl3·6H2O, Ca(OH)2 and Al2(SO4)3·14H2O. In this step, the influence of coagulant dosage, stirring time and pH has been evaluated. The effectiveness of coagulation is expressed by comparing the concentration of anionic surfactants in laundry wastewater (mg/L) before and after the coagulation process. The research results show that the optimum coagulation process was obtain at 30 minutes of stirring time and 4 g/L of dosage for all coagulant. FeCl3·6H2O and Ca(OH)2 have optimum condition at pH 6, Al2(SO4)3·14H2O optimum at pH 10 and chitosan optimum at pH 4. Chitosan has the highest coagulation effectiveness i.e. 82,48%, FeCl3·6H2O, Ca(OH)2 and Al2(SO4)3·14H2O have effectiveness 71,48; 61,34 and 47,66%, respectively.
