2015 | Skripsi | FMIPAThe study of dithizone immobilization on coal bottom ash from PLTU Pacitan Jawa Timur as adsorbent in the simultaneous adsorption of metal ions Cu(II) and Mg(II) has been carried out. The research was started by activating the coal bottom ash using concentrated HCl. Activated bottom ash was then used for immobilization of dithizone on its surface. Characterization of activated and dithizone-immobilized coal bottom ash was done by using an Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Parameters of metal adsorption examined in this study include the effect of pH, mass of adsorbent, interaction time and the initial concentration of Cu(II). The concentration of each metal ion remaining in the solution after adsorption was determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The results showed that dithizone has been immobilized on activated coal bottom ash. The optimum conditions for Cu(II) and Mg(II) adsorption using activated and dithizone-immobilized bottom ash are at pH 4 with 0.2 gram of adsorbent mass and initial concentration of Cu(II) at 50 ppm and contact time of 45 minutes. The adsorption kinetics of Cu(II) on activated and dithizoneimmobilized bottom ash follow pseudo-second orde model with rate constants respectively 0.020 and 0.034 g mg-1 minute-1 while the thermodynamics of adsorption follow Langmuir Model, it has been obtained that the equilibrium constant is 11766.02 and 8302.12 L mol-1. Adsorption capacity of activated and dithizone-immobilized bottom ash is respectively 7.81×10-5 and 9.03×10-5 mol g-1 involving the adsorption energies of 23.22 and 22.36 kJ mol-1.
