Coal bottom ash has been used as an adsorbent to decrease the content of COD in batik industry wastewater. The objective of this research is to study the effectiveness of coal bottom ash to reduce the amount of COD content in batik industry wastewater. This research was started with the characterization of the main content in coal bottom ash using AAS. The preparation of coal bottom ash adsorbent was done by activating it using HCl (1:1). Afterwards, adsorbent was characterized using FTIR and XRD. The optimizing the adsorption process was performed using of potassium hydrogen phthalate as standard solution, which contains 1000 mg O2/L. Later, the reduction of COD content on batik industry wastewater sample was done at optimum adsorption condition. The result of this research showed that the main component of coal bottom ash was SiO2 and Al2O3. The optimum adsorption condition of 50 mL solution potassium hydrogen phthalate 1000 mg O2/L was 1.0 g adsorbent at pH 2 for 45 minutes. Adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo second order Ho with the adsorption rate constant of 1.35 ×10-2 g/mg.minute. Adsorption’s isotherm was followed the Langmuir’s isotherm with the capacity of adsorption of 11.77 mg/g and energy of adsorption was 19.55 kJ/mol. The adsorption’s effectivity of coal bottom ash in reducing the content of COD in wastewater of batik industry was 55.56 % for inlet sample and 40.00 % for batik’s coloration residue sample.
