In this study, degradation of organic compounds in the tofu wastewater in the presence of UV light, TiO2 and H2O2 for reducing COD value has been studied. This research was initiated by determinations of TSS, ammonia concentration, COD value of wastewater and the organic component contributing the COD. The further step was photodegradation process which was carried out by irradiating the mixture of wastewater, TiO2 photocatalyst and H2O2 in a batch reactor equipped with UV lamp. In this research, the influences of TiO2 photocatalyst dose, H2O2 concentration and irradiation time were evaluated. The value of COD was determined with closed reflux titration method. The results showed that TSS of tofu industry wastewater from “Mitra Usaha Tahu” in Sleman Yogyakarta was 1210 mg/L, amonia concentration was 29.88 mg/L, initial COD value was 3040 mg/L and protein and carbohydrate were the main components contributing COD. Increasing TiO2 photocatalyst dose, H2O2 concentration and irradiation time could enhance the effectiveness of reduction of COD value. The maximum reduction of COD value as high as 69.08% to reach 940 mg/L could be obtained by using TiO2 400 mg/L, H2O2 5 mM and 12 h of irradiation time. The COD value has not fulfilled the Goverment Regulation yet. The COD value of wastewater from tofu industry could be reduced to value that fulfill the quality standard regulated by the Government (300 mg/L) by three steps of photodegradation process with the final COD value was 120 mg/L.
