Magnetic nanoparticles Zinc Ferrite (ZnFe2O4) have been successfully synthesized via co-precipitation method with precursors ZnSO4.7H2O and FeCl3.6H2O which NaOH as the co-precipitant. The synthesis was conducted at temperature 90 oC and stirring rate 1000 rpm for 1 hour. The nanoparticles were encapsulated by silica with concentration 50%, 30%, 20%, 15%, 10%, and 5%. The grain size, microstructure, functional groups of nanoparticles before and after encapsulation were identified by using X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), and Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscope (FTIR) respectively. The XRD results showed that crystal structure of nanoparticles change from normal spinel into Hexagonal Close-Packed (HCP). The TEM analysis showed that grain size of ZnFe2O4 is 8 nm and being 45 nm after encapsulation. The FTIR analysis showed that the existence of absorption peaks such as M-O, Zn-Otet, Fe-Ooct and Zn-O-Fe which wavenumber was shifted to be higher after encapsulation due to its vibrational energy reduction as consequence of absorption by silica.
