Synthesis of silver nanoparticles by reduction of AgNO3 with o-hydroxy benzoic acid, p-hydroxy benzoic acid and o,p-dihydroxy benzoic acid as reducing agents was investigated. This research was conducted to determine the effect of the hydroxyl group position and amount toward the size, shape and stability of the resulting silver nanoparticles. Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) of silver nanoparticles was characterized by UV/Vis spectrophotometer, the shape and size of silver nanoparticles using Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). The results showed that the reducing agent that has substituents in the para position have the higher reduce ability than the others. Silver nanoparticles for all types of reducing agents was formation an alkaline system. Reducing agents which have more number of substituents can produce silver nanoparticles with smaller concentration of AgNO3 than the others. Silver nanoparticles was produced by reducing agents which have substituents on the para position more stable and smaller with size 34 ± 78 nm than reducing agent that has subtituens on the ortho para positions with size 45 ± 3,67 nm and ortho with size 70 ± 4.96 nm.
