OPTIMASI METODE PABRIKASI KOMPOSIT KENAF POLYPROPYLENE(PP) BERDASARKAN SIFAT MEKANIKNYA; OPTIMIZATION OF KENAF POLYPROPYLENE(PP) COMPOSITE FABRICATION METHOD BASED ON ITS MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

Optimization of kenaf polypropylene(PP) composite fabrication method based on its mechanical properties has been carried out by processing of continous and discontinous fiber with the fabrication metdhods are particulated and layers. Fabrication methods of composites involved mixing the fibers with length of fiber 17 cm for continous fiber, and 0.2 × 0.2 mm for discontinous fiber, with plastic pieces PP 0.5 cm × 0.5 cm for methods of particulated and PP plastic sheet 17 cm × 2 cm for layers method, then the process of hot press is 150 MPa with temperature 170 oC in 3 minutes. Mechanical testing standar for bending test is ASTM D 790- 02 and ASTM D638-02 for tensile test, the mechanical testing shown that the orientation of the fiber effected on the mechanical properties of composite. The bond between kenaf fiber and PP shown correlation the mechanical properties in the composite by SEM (scanning electron microscope) analysis result. 40% fiber composition in composite with continous and particulated method has the strongest tensile strength (77.23 GPa). SEM (scanning electron microscope) picture from the fracture fragments of this composite shown the correlation of bond between kenaf fiber and PP matrix.
