2015 | Skripsi | FMIPAIn order to develop photocatalytic degradation method to treat anionic surfactant in laundry wastewater, in this research, the addition of H2O2 on the photodegradation catalyzed by TiO2 has been studied. The photodegradation was carried out by irradiation of a mixture containing of laundry wastewater, TiO2 and H2O2 with UV lamp for 24 hours. In this photodegradation, the influence of H2O2 concentration and the period of radiation time on effectiveness of photodegradation was evaluated. Effectivity of photodegradation represented by % anionic surfactant degraded. The anionic surfactant was calculated by the initial concentration with the undegraded once. The remaining anionic surfactant in the solution after photodegradation was analyzed by spectrophotometry UV-Vis using methylene blue as a complexing agent. The results show that the laundry wastewater from a laundry service contains anionic surfactant as much as 126.86 mg/L. The photodegradation catalyzed by TiO2 decreases the anionic surfactant concentration from 126.86 mg/L to 92.89 mg/L and the addition of H2O2 further decreases the concentration of surfactants more effectively until 71.94 mg/L. Increasing concentration of H2O2 and the period of radiation time can increase the effectivity of photodegradation further increasing concentration of H2O2 and radiating time causes a decline in effectivity of photodegradation. Photodegradation process of anionic surfactants for 24 hour can decrase the concentration of surfactants to the maximum in 25 mL laundry wastewater down to 20.16 mg/L by using 0.03 M H2O2 and 40 mg TiO2. The concentration of anionic surfactants can be reduced so fullfill the concentration of the standard quality regulated by Indonesian Government, e.g. 0,5 mg/L by 2 steps of photodegradation, with the final anionic surfactant concentration of 0 mg/L.
