A modular metric space is a generalization of a metric space and a modular space. Some concepts in a metric space and a modular space can be developed into a metric modular space. In this thesis, we discuss some properties of a modular metric space, normal structure, and fixed point theorems for contraction mappings, quasi-contraction mappings, and nonexpansive mappings in a modular metric space. Furthermore, some fixed point theorems for pointwise contraction mappings and generalized quasi-contraction mappings are developed into a modular metric space.
