Synthesis of quaternary ammonium modified silica and its application for anion adsorption of Cr(VI) have been studied. Modified silica adsorbent, synthesized by reacting was trimetil-(3-trimetoksisililpropil) ammonium iodide with solution of sodium silicate that was extracted from rice husk, throught solgel method. The existence of functional groups was identified by FTIR spectrophotometry, and its crystallinity by XRD. Adsorbed metal ions were analyzed by UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Adsorption of Cr(VI) was carried out as function of pH, mass and contact time. Adsorption kinetic determined by Moore and Pearson, Santosa, Lagergren, and Ho models. While, adsorption reaction mechanism was studied using desorbent variations with different levels of alkalinity. FTIR and XRD characterization showed that quaternary ammonium modified silica was successfully synthesized. Then, the adsorption of Cr(VI) was effective at pH 3. Adsorption kinetic studies showed that adsorbtion of Cr(VI) to follows the pseudo second-order model of Ho with the adsorption rate constant 0.069 (g.mg-1).min-1. Evaluation results show that the adsorption mechanism involved ion exchange interactions, with a maximum desorption results of 60.50% was achieved with NaOH desorbent.
