SINTESIS 1,1-DIETOKSIETANA DARI ETANOL MENGGUNAKAN KATALIS LOGAM Ni YANG DIEMBANKAN PADA KARBON AKTIF SYNTHESIS OF 1,1-DIETHOXYETHANE FROM ETHANOL USING Ni METAL CATALYST SUPPORTED ON ACTIVATED CARBON

2015 | Skripsi | FMIPA UGMSynthesis of 1,1-diethoxyethane from ethanol using Ni and Ni-Mg metal catalysts with activated carbon support has been done. Activated carbon was prepared from coconut shell through carbonization at a temperature of 450-500 ?C and followed by activation at 850 ?C. Mineral impurities on activated carbon was cleaned using acetone 1.0 M HCl and 1.0 M NH4Cl. Ni and Mg metal were impregnated to activated carbon using H2 as a reducting agent. The acidity of catalysts were tested by NH3 adsorption. Synthesis of 1,1-diethoxyethane was performed using 50 mL/15 g ethanol-catalyst ratio. The catalysts used were Ni/AC and Ni-Mg/AC flowed by N2 and H2. The results showed that the amount of NH3 adsorbed into activated carbon, Ni/AC, and Ni-Mg/AC catalyst were 8.70, 10.50, and 14.14 mmol/g, respectively. The percentage of 1,1-diethoxyethane as analyzed using GC and GC-MS were 5.01%, 11.92%, and 27.07% for Ni/AC with N2, Ni-Mg/AC with N2, and Ni/AC with H2 gas flow, respectively.
