Planar sample of nematic liquid crystal 5CB with thickness 50 ?m have been made and measurement of width of convection roll have been observed when the electric field applied to sample. Applied electric field caused distortion of the director orientation of liquid crystal molecules. When an AC voltage applied to sample, at a threshold voltage, Vc, a periodic pattern called convection roll is formed in sample with the stripe direction perpendicular to the initial unpertubed orientation of the director n. Phase diagram is given in frequency – width of convection roll. The result shows that the width of convection roll increases when the frequency was increased. Width of convection roll is dependent on sample thickness.
