2015 | Skripsi | FMIPA UGMJapan is an archipelago formed by the confluence of four plates, namely Pacific plate, North American plate, Philippine plate and Eurasian plate, consequently Japan being hit by earthquakes with intensity 1500 times each year. One of the powerful earthquake event is the Tohoku earthquake on March 11, 2011 with a magnitude of 9.1 Mw. Tohoku earthquake data can be used to determine the parameters of the fault, such as a strike, dip, rake, and the type of fault using fault plane solutions. Through seismicity maps we can see that the earthquake was near the trench of Japan, which is the result of the subduction of Pacific Plate and North American plate. Determination of focal mechanism is done based on initial movement polarity of P-wave using Focmec program. The results obtained from the analysis of Tohoku earthquake focal mechanism shows that fault plane has a value of Strike = 200°, dip = 5°, and rake = 90°, and the auxiliary plane has a strike rate of 20°, dip = 85°, rake = 90°.
