Concentration of water based solutions has been measured by using a capacitive transducer which works based on the phenomenon of electrical capacitive tomography (ECT). Before being used, the capacitive transducer was verified by ASTM D.1076-02 standard to the latex solution by Laboratorium Penguji Balai Penelitian Teknologi Karet Bogor. Two types of solutions were measured in this study, i.e. the concentration of sugar solution and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution at various concentrations. The sugar solution represents a non-electrolyte samples, while the NaOH solution represents an electrolyte samples. In the implementation of measurements, the highest concentration was employed as a reference. In this case, we used the reference concentrations of 95% for the sugar solution. For purpose of comparison we also used 80% of the reference concentration of sugar solution. By using the reference concentration of 95%, we found a linear relationship between the concentration of the test solution and the measured concentration by the correlation coefficient of 0.999. Correlation coefficient decreased to 0.996 when the reference concentration was 80%. Meanwhile for the NaOH solution, the correlation coefficient was found to be 0.999 when the reference concentration was 80%. It can be concluded that the capacitive transducer shows high potential for measuring concentration of a solution rapidly without any sample preparation.
