2014 | Disertasi | Program Studi S2 FisikaThe study on the effect of adding NaCl to PVA/chitosan solution have been carried out. The result indicate that dissociated Na+ and Cl- ions leads to change in the conformational chitosan polymer chains, as shown by the change in viscosity and surface tension of PVA/chitosan solution. Conformational change in chitosan polymer chain also affect on the morphology of PVA/chitosan fiber mat such as increasing fiber diameter when more NaCl was added. Significant decrease of beads when a small amount of NaCl (0,01 g) was added. However, further increase in salt results in reappearance of beads, this is due to the reduction in viscoelastic solution. Crystals embedded on fibers were observed when 0.1 grams of NaCl was added to the the solution, this is because the solution was rapidly evaporated into filaments in the electrospinning process and leave the agregate salt. Further increase of charge density due to the addition of NaCl causes branching fibers which is similar to spider webs. The result of digital image analysis of SEM micrograph with 10000x magnification showed that the fiber with diameter 104 ± 12 nm has a larger porosity area than those fiber with diameter 187 ± 26 nm but the result shows no significant different. The resulting fiber mat was crosslinked by glutaraldehyde/ethanol/HCl in order to produce a stable fiber mat in aqueous media due to the formation of acetal bridge analyzed by FTIR, so it can be applied in many fields, such as filter media, metal ion detector , and many others.
