2014 | Disertasi | PROGRAM STUDI S-2 KIMIAA study on the release of curcumin from chitosan nanoparticles had been conducted in order to determine the effectiveness of the nanoparticles to release curcumin in dissolution media. The composition of the nanoparticles affected the release curcumin including chitosan, lauric acid with Hydrophile-Lipophile Balance 16 and glutaraldehid. Curcumin chitosan nanoparticles was prepared using solvent evaporation method by multiple emulsion. Nanoparticles were characterized using FT-IR Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) dan Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The kinetics of the curcumin release were studied using several models; zero order, first order, Higuchi model and Korsmeyer-Peppas model. FTIR characterization of curcumin-chitosan nanoparticles showed a specific wave number at 3448 cm-1 (hydroxil group), 2924 and 2854 cm-1 (C-H sp3 group of the surfactant) and 1635 cm-1 (C=N group of chitosan crosslinked by glutaraldehid). Nanoparticles size was observed in the range of 20- 40 nm as uniform spheres. The optimum composition of curcumin chitosan nanoparticles was obtained from mass ratio chitosan; lauric acid inner; lauric acid outer and glutaraldehyde 16:10:23:10 respectively. They gave the optimum curcumin loading of 23.19 mg/g chitosan nanoparticles. The release study showed that curcumin-chitosan nanoparticles tend to follow Korsmeyer-Peppas models with a rate constant of 0,966 menit-0.8. The release of curcumin from nanoparticles reached maximum at 85% for 10 hours
