2012 | Skripsi | Program Studi S1 KimiaOne of the applications of Ag nanoparticles is as antibacterial agent in biomedical. Ag nanoparticles must be non-toxic, biocompatible, and stable for certain period of time. The research focused on the effect of betel leaf extract on Ag nanoparticles stablility. The stability of Ag nanoparticles synthesized using betel leaf extract was compared to that prepared using ascorbic acid. Betel leaf extract was obtained by liquid-liquid extraction technique using chloroform. Ag nanoparticles was synthesized by adding AgNO3 and extract solution into 1% chitosan solution. The mixture was heated at 95oC for 1.5 hours. The same procedure was conducted using ascorbic acid to produce Ag nanoparticles. The concentration was varied from 100-500 ppm. The stability of Ag nanoparticles was analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometer weekly for a month. The crystallinity of Ag nanoparticles was analyzed using XRD, while the shape and particle size were analyzed using TEM. The extract was obtained in 0.45%. UV-Vis and XRD analysis indicated that Ag nanoparticles had been formed. The wavelength of the synthesis was between 420-450 nm. Ag nanoparticles had fcc structure with lattice parameter a = 4.092 Å with good crystallinity. Ag nanoparticles synthesized using the extract was more stable than those prepared using ascorbic acid. Based on TEM image at 300 ppm, Ag nanoparticles prepared by using betel leaf extract was smaller than those prepared using ascorbic acid.
