STUDI ADSORPSI ION LOGAM Fe(III) PADA POLI[EUGENOL-CO-(DIVINIL BENZENA)] (EDVB) HASIL SINTESIS A STUDY ON THE ADSORPTION OF Fe(III) ON POLY[EUGENOL-CO-(DIVINYL BENZENE)] (EDVB)

A study on the adsorption of Fe(III) metal ions on the newly synthesized Poly[eugenol-co-(divinyl benzene)] (EDVB) has been conducted. The aim of this research is to examine the effect of EDVB to the effectiveness of Fe(III) adsorption The polymer was synthesized by reacting eugenol and DVB (6% to the weight of eugenol) using BF3 as the polymerization catalyst. The product was characterized using IR Spectrometry. Fe(III) ion adsorption on the polymer was studied by batch method. The adsorption parameter studied were the effect of pH, interaction time, initial metal ion concentration, adsorption selectivity, and mechanism of adsorption using a sequential desorption method. The polymerisation results Poly[eugenol-co-(divinyl benzene)] in 65.5% yield and the product was confirmed by the lost the allyl and vinyl group absorption in the FT-IR spectrum. Adsorption of Fe(III) ion onto the polymer was occured at optimum pH 4.5 and 360 minutes. Kinetics studies showed that the Fe(III) adsorption followed a pseudo-2 order kinetics model with the rate constant of 0.144 min-1. The adsorption isotherm using Tempkin, Langmuir and Freundlich model gave an equilibrium constant of 3.01912 L/mg, 0.8 mg/L and 1.0093 mg/g, respectively. Competitive adsorption study showed that EDVB adsorbed selectively toward Fe(III) than Cr(III), Cu(II) and Cd(II). Sequential desorption study showed that Fe(III) ion were adsorbed onto the polymer surface through an H+-exchange.
