Removal of anionic surfactant such as sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (DBS) which included as group of linear alkylbenzenesulfonate (LAS) by fotodegradation of DBS catalyzed TiO2 has been studied. The photodegradation process was carried out by irradiating a mixture of DBS solution and TiO2 photocatalyst powder in a closed reactor equipped with UV lamp and accompanied by stirring. The condition of photodegradation was 50 mL of DBS solution with variation of initial concentration, pH, mass of TiO2, and irradiation time. The result of photodegradation was calculated by subtracting the initial concentration of DBS with the remaining concentration in the solution after the photodegradation process. The remaining concentration was determined by UVVisible Spectrometry method as DBS-MB complex. The crystallinity of TiO2 was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and its functional groups was measured by infrared spectrometer. This research result showed that the use of TiO2 could increase the effectiveness of DBS photodegradation from 15.27 % to 98.55 % from the initial DBS concentration of 10 ppm. Photodegradation of DBS also increased with the increase of TiO2 mass until maximum at mass of TiO2 60 mg with DBS 40 ppm, as much as 99.77 % DBS was degraded. The longer irradiation time could increase the effectiveness of DBS photodegradation catalyzed by TiO2 up to 24 h with the degradation result of 98.55 %, but irradiation time longer than 24 h caused the effectiveness of DBS photodegradation decreased. pH solution significantly affect the effectiveness of DBS photodegradation catalyzed by TiO2 and at pH 5 gave the most optimum photodegradation effectiveness, as many as 98.55 % DBS was degraded. Increasing the effectiveness of DBS photodegradation catalyzed by TiO2 is also affected by increasing DBS concentration until the maximum initial concentration of DBS was reached at 40 ppm of DBS as much as 99.35 % DBS degraded. It is also found that the crystallinity of TiO2 decreased after it was used as photocatalyst in the DBS photodegradation process that may be due to the interactions between DBS and TiO2.
