2011 | Disertasi | PROGRAM STUDI S2 ILMU KIMIAModification of bentonite and kaolin by N-cetyl-N,N,Ntrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) for adsorption of [Fe(CN)6]3- anion in a solution has been conducted. Prior modification, bentonite was soaked into 1.5 M H2SO4, while kaolin was washed by using H2O2 and NaOH solution at certain pH, finally was then calcined at 500 oC for 5 h. Bentonite and kaolin were modified by CTAB surfactant with concentration twice higher than the cation exchange capacity (CEC). The modified bentonite (bentonite-CTAB) and modified kaolin (kaolin-CTAB) were then applied for adsorption of [Fe(CN)6]3- anion in solution. Bentonite and kaolin before and after modification were characterized by infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction methods, while the amount of adsorbed anion was measured by atomic absorption spectroscopy method. Results of research indicated that adsorption of [Fe(CN)6]3- anion by bentonite-CTAB and kaolin-CTAB followed Langmuir isotherm adsorption. Adsorption capacity of bentonite-CTAB to [Fe(CN)6]3- anion was higher than kaolin-CTAB with adsorption capacity of bentonite-CTAB and kaolin-CTAB was 40.26 mg.g-1 and 1.02 mg.g-1, respectively.
