SINTESIS KOMPOSIT Fe-TiO2-SiO2 SEBAGAI FOTOKATALIS PADA DEGRADASI ERIONYL YELLOW SYNTHESIS OF Fe-TiO2-SiO2 COMPOSITE AS A PHOTOCATALYST FOR DEGRADATION OF ERIONYL YELLOW

Synthesis and characterization of Fe-TiO2-SiO2 composite as a photocatalyst in the photodegradation of erionyl yellow on ultraviolet and visible light irradiation in a closed reactor have been carried out. Synthesis was conducted by the sol-gel method at room temperature using tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS), titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTiP) and iron (II) chloride as a precursor, followed by thermal treatment at a temperature of 500oC. The characterizations were performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR spectrometry, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectrofotometry and fluorescence X-rays. In the activity test, the influence of initial pH, metal ion concentration of iron, and time of irradiation on the effectiveness of photodegradation erionyl yellow have been investigated. The results showed that the Fe-TiO2-SiO2 composite could be synthesized by sol-gel method at room temperature, followed by thermal treatment with the optimum concentration of iron was 6% weight. Fe-TiO2-SiO2 composite increase the effectiveness of photodegradation erionyl yellow significantly at pH 2 and irradiation time of 16 hours, with the percentage degradation of 57.87% and 95.11% for under ultraviolet and visible light irradiation, respectively.
