SINTESIS ZEOLIT A DARI ABU DASAR BATUBARA MENGGUNAKAN SISTEM PEMANASAN MICROWAVE DAN APLIKASINYA SEBAGAI ADSORBEN ION LOGAM Cr(III); SYNTHESIS OF ZEOLITE A FROM BOTTOM ASH USING MICROWAVE HEATING SYSTEM AND ITS APLICATION FOR Cr(III) ADSORPTION

Synthesis of zeolite A from coal bottom ash originated from PLTU Paiton have been conducted. The synthesis was done by hydrothermal method of microwave digestion heating at 100oC with time variation of 1, 3 and 6 hours. The analysis results using XRD, FTIR and SEM confirm the formation of zeolite A. The nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis showed that surface area and total pore volume were increased, mean while pore radius was not increased significantly. The surface area, total pore volume and pore radius for bottom ash were 1.04 m2/g; 5.04x10-3 cm3/g and 15.16Å respectively, 14.31 m2/g; 61.00x10-3 cm3/g and 15.29Å for zeolite A. Synthesized Zeolite A was tested its adsorption activity for Cr (III). As comparation of the adsorption activity the coal bottom ash was tested in the way. The optimum conditions for zeolite A and bottom ash adsorption were reached at pH 4. The adsorption kinetic of zeolite A and bottom ash to Cr (III) followed pseudo-second order reaction with k at each 2.92x10-2 and 2.08x10-2 (g/mg minute). The Adsorption capacity of zeolite A was 9.52x10-4 mol/g, and bottom ash was 0.91x10-4 mol/g. Adsorption equilibrium constant (K) to Cr (III) is 2.10x105 L/mol for zeolite A and 5.43x103 L/mol for bottom ash, respectively
