SINTESIS C-4-HIDROKSI-3-METOKSIFENILKALIKS[4] RESORSINARENA UNTUK ADSORPSI ZAT WARNA; METHYLENE BLUE SYNTHESIS OF C-4-HYDROXY-3-METHOXYPHENYL CALIX[4]RESORCINARENE FOR THE ADSORPTION OF METHYLENE BLUE

A study for the synthesis of C-4-hydroxy-3-methoxy phenylcalix[4]- resorcinarene from vanillin and resorcinol compounds through one-stage reaction of HCl-catalyzed has been conducted. The resulted product was a pink-colored solid of melting point 380 oC in yield 50%. The application of C-4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylcalix[4]resorcinarene to trap methylene blue and its adsorption model have been studied by stirring C-4- hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylcalix[4]resorcinarene in sample solution of various pH and time. On optimum pH = 6.05, the methylene blue absorbed by C-4-hydroxy-3- methoxyphenylcalix[4]resorcinarene was 6.23 ?mol/g, and also on optimal time of 60 minutes the trapped methylene blue was 7.86 ?mol/g. The adsorption pattern of methylene blue toward C-4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylcalix[4]resorcinarene was following Ho pseudo second order adsorption kinetics model and Langmuir isotherm adsorption model of rate constant k = 1.37 x 10-1 g.mg-1.menute-1 by adsorption equilibrium constant (K) of 1.40 x 105 L/mol. C-4-hydroxy-3- methoxypheny lcalix[4]resorcinarene has adsorption maximum capacity toward methylene blue of 5.12 mg/L or 18.27 ?mol/g and its adsorption energy was 29.36 kJ/mol.
