2015 | Tesis |Mineral exploration is one of the important activities to obtain information about mineral location, but the exploration process to do so takes a long time and huge costs particularly when carried out over a wide area. Therefore this study seek to presented the application of Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing for mapping the distribution of potential mineral deposits of lateritic nickel (Ni). The study aims to determine the ability of Landsat 7 ETM + in (1) identification of the morphological characteristics of the land surface, (2) identification of the appearance of the geological structure of the surface, (3) identification of ultramafic rocks associated with the formation of lateritic nickel, (4) the identification of the appearance of vegetation on each unit morphology, (5) the identification and mapping of vegetation on each unit characteristic morphology in order to estimate the lateritic nickel mineral using the integration of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems. The research was conducted in the District of Konawe Laonti South, Southeast Sulawesi. The method used is the analysis of digital data Landsat 7 ETM +. Processed image data conducted by performing a contrast sharpening techniques, filtering, creation of a composite image and image fusion. Image data processing is done for visual interpretation of alignment, the unit boundary morphology and mineral estimation of lateritic nickel. The data processing carried out as well with NDVI analysis techniques in order to obtain the pattern density of vegetation on the surface. Image interpretation results are analyzed to obtain the mineral potential of the area of lateritic nickel. The results showed that the presence of lateritic nickel mineral lies in the undulating hills morphology. Undulating hills located in ultramafic rocks. Geological structures found in ultramafic rocks identified from the alignment of rocks and the flow pattern of a fault and fracture structure. Fracture structure identified with the flow patterns that are rectangular in undulating surface of hills. Undulating hills directional lineament N 355o W located in ultramafic rocks in the Northeast. Vegetation found in ultramafic rocks in the study area mostly much Ironwood (Eusideroxylon zwager), Sisio (Syzygium sp.1), Rattan (Daemonorops draco. Syn: Calamus sp), Resin (Araucaria spp). Wide spread of potential mineral resources of lateritic nickel derived from remote sensing image processing is an area of 632.0 ha of research in ultramafic rocks
