Thesis ini meneliti tentang factor-faktor yang mempengaruhi jumlah kedatangan turis asing di Indonesia. Jumlah hotel dan akomodasi , investasi di sector telekomunikasi, nilai tukar, pertumbuhan GDP dan factor keamanan akan digunakan untuk menjelaskan fluktuasi jumlah kedatangan turis asing di Indonesia pada kurun waktu 1990 hingga 2009. Menggunakan regresi log linear, studi menemukan bahwa kedatangan turis asing, sebagai salah satu tolak ukur perkembangan industri pariwisata, sangat bergantung pada keberadaan infrastruktur, seperti hotel, ICT, dan juga sangat rentan terhadap gejolak politik, ekonomi, dan gangguan-gangguan keamanan.

This paper examines the factors that influence the number of foreign tourist

arrivals in Indonesia. The number of hotels and other accommodation, investment in

the telecommunication sector, exchange rate, GDP growth and security factor

(dummy) will be used to explain fluctuations in the number of foreign tourist arrival

in Indonesia during the years of 1990 to 2009. Using the log linear regression, the

study finds that the foreign tourist arrival, as the proxy of the growth in tourism

industries, is highly dependent on the availability of infrastructure, such as hotel and

ICT, and it is also highly vulnerable toward political turmoil, economical, and social

unrests.
