Pengujian Pengaruh Teknologi Komunikasi Sebagai Mediator Terhadap Hubungan antara Atribut Lingkungan dan atribut Struktur Organisasi: Riset Empiris Pada Perusahaan Manufaktur di Indonesia

Hubungan antara struktur organisasi dan teknologi informasi telah banyak dibahas dalam riset di bidang sistem lnformasi. Sementara riset-riset yang telah ada belum memberikan hasil konklusif. pentingnya pengujian hubungan antara teknologi informasi dan strukt'ur organisasi dalam ketidakpastian atau volatilitas lingkungan semakin marak dilakukan. Sebagaimana telah diasumsikan oleh Lee & Grover (2000). teknologi informasi kontemporer yang berkembang sejak dekade 90'an diiringi dengan peran yang demikian menonjol dari teknologi komunikasi. Riset ini mengangkat issue tentang teknologi komunikasi sebagai mediator link. Sejauh ini. belum terdapat riset-riset di bidang akuntansi yang secara khusus menguji pengaruh mediating dari teknologi komunikasi oleh periset di Indonesia.
Riset ini secara empiris menguji pengaruh kontribusi teknologi komunikasi sebagai mediator dalam hubungan antara atribut Iingkungan dan atribut struktur organisasi. Kuesioner via pos telah dikirim kepada 300 eksekutif puncak dan/ataujajaran direktur dari perusahaan manufaktur yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Jakarta. TIngkat responsi yang diperoleh sebesar 24.67%. Pembahasan dan analisa dilakukan terhadap tiga kategori variabel riset meliputi atribut Iingkungan. atribut struktur organisasi. dan teknologi komunikasi.
Hasil riset ini menunjukkan bahwa secara statistik. teknologi komunikasi berperan secara langsung dalam mengkokohkan struktur organisasi seiring dengan ketidak pastian lingkungan yang terjadi. Dengan kata lain. dipicu oleh semakin meningkatnya dinamlsme dan ketidakpastian lingkungan. menuntut perubahan pada atribut struktur organisasi (seperti: formalisasi. sentraliasi. kompleksitas. dan integrasi) untuk semakin banyak menyerap informasi. yang dapat diujudkan melalui investasi dalam teknologi komunikasi.
The reiationship between organizational sfrucrure and information technology has been the subject of much discussion in information system research. While studies have ;'ot been yielded conclusive results, the importance of examining the relationship between structure and technology is increasing in the uncertainty environment. As assumed by Lee & Grover (2000), the contemporary information technology proliferated from 1990s with prominent role played by communication technology. This study takes up the issue about communication technology as mediator link. So far, no accounting research has specifically studied the mediating effect of communication technology in Indonesian researcher.
This study empirically examined the contribution effect of communication technology as mediator on the relationship between environmental attributes and organizational structural attributes. Mailed questionnaires were distributed to 300 top executives and/or board of directors of manufacturing firm listed in Bursa Efek Jakarta. The response-rate in this research is 24,67%. Three categories of research variables are discussed and ana/yzed, like environment attributes; organizational strures attributes; and communication technology.
The results indicated that statistically the communication technology seems to play direct role in reinforcing the organizational structural that emerges from environmental volatility or uncertainty. In other word, the greater investment in communication technology, spurred by increasing environmental dynamism and complexity, leads to more direct influence on organizational structural attributes like formalization, centralization, complexity, and integration.
