Hubungan Antar Leverage Dengan Kinerja: Dinamika Lingkungan Sebagai Variabel Moderasi dan Ukuran Perusahaan Sebagai Variabel Kontrol

Penelitian ini bertujuan menguji hubungan antara leverage dengan kinerja.
Penelitian mengenai hubungan antara struktur modal perusahaan dengan faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan kemampuan perusahaan untuk bersaing masih relatif baru Penelitian ini penting karena struktur modal dan strategi yang dipilih perusahaan akan berpengaruh pada governance struktur perusahaan. Berdasar teori bahwa tingkat dinamika linglrungan secara siguiflkan menentukan manajemen struktur modal perusahaan.Ukuran perusahaan juga berdampak pada beberapa aspek penting dalam perusahaan. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghubungkan antara struktur modal yang diwakili oleh leverage dengan kinerja perusahaan yang dimoderasi oleh dinamika lingkungan dan ukuran perusahaan sebagai variabel kontrol.
Sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 116 perusahaan manufaktur yang terdaftar dalam Indonesian Capital Market Directory selama 3 tahun yaitu mulai tabun 1998 sampai dengan tahun 2000. Kinerja diukur dengan ROI, dinamika lingkungan diproksi oleh natural log of sales sedangkan ukuran perusahaan diukur oIeh natura/log of assets ..
Hasil pengujian tidak berhasil mendukung sepenuhnya penelitian Simerly dan Li ( 2000) yang menyatabn bahwa interaksi variabel dinamika Iingkungan dengan leverage terhadap kinerja mempunyai hubungan yang negatif Namun hasil pengujian kedua. hipotesis menunjukkan bahwa dari dua hipotesis yang diajukan, penelitian ini berhasil mendukung hipotesis yang pertama. Bahwa untuk dinamika Iingkungan yang rendah, leverage secara statistik berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kinerja.
This research aims to verify the relationship between leverage and economic performance. A research on the relationship between capital structure of a firm and the factors related to the capability of the firm to compete is relatively new. This research is prominent as the capital structure and strategy chosen by the firm will exert influence on the governance of the structure of the firm. The degree of environmental dynamic theoritically determines the capital structure management of the firm in a significant way. The size of the firm also has an impact on some important aspects in the firm. Thus the goal of this research is to relate capital structure represented by leverage to the performance of the firm moderated by environmental dynamic and the size of the firm as control variable.
Sample of this research is 116 manufacturing firms listed in the Indonesian Capital Market Directory for three years, from 1998 up to 2000. The economic performance was measured by ROI, the environmental dynamic by natural log of sales and the size by natural log assets.
The result of the verification did not fully support Simerly and Li research (2000) which suggested that the interaction of environmental dynamic variable with leverage had a negative link. The verification showed, however, that the research supported the first hypothesis proposed, that is, in low environmental dynamic, leverage statistically had a positive and significant influence on economic performance.
