Cross-cultural research is conducted either by a local researcher or one who is in sympathy with local matters. It often aims to search for distinctions and cultural specifics rather than similarities. In doing so, some research methods which deal with cultural issues could be applied. Besides, the researcher needs to appraise cultural preconceptions from both prior experience and cultural background since such biases often emerge from those factors, whether realized or not. They could affect the study in terms of research validity and how the results are interpreted.
