Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan kinerja value stock dan growth stock pada perusahaan yang tercatat di Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI). Kami menggunakan sampel sebanyak 244 perusahaan yang mewakili lebih dari 70% populasi di BEI, mulai dari tahun 2007 sampai 2009. Perhitungan return bagi portfolio dilakukan dengan metode equally-weighted dan analisis kinerjanya menggunakan analisis Sharpe ratio dan JensenÂ’s alpha. Hasil penelitian kami menunjukkan bahwa value stock secara konsisten menghasilkan risk-adjusted return yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan growth stock. Namun, saat dilakukan pengujian hipotesis dengan menggunakan Independent Samples T-Test, kami menemukan bahwa keunggulan value stock terhadap growth stock tidaklah signifikan secara statistik. Penemuan ini menuntun kami pada kesimpulan bahwa fenomena value premium tidak terbukti di Indonesia.

This research compares the performance of value and growth stock performance in the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). We use 244 sample companies representing over 70% of population in the IDX from the year of 2007 until 2009. Portfolio returns are calculated using the equally-weighted method and portfolio measurements are conducted using the Sharpe ratio and Jensens alpha analysis. Our result shows that value stock, on average, consistently earns higher risk-adjusted return compare to growth stock during the period of our observation. However, when we conducted the hypothesis testing analysis using the Independent Samples T-Test, we found the superiority of value stock over growth stock to be not statistically significant. This finding leads us to conclude that value premium does not exist in the Indonesian market.
