World Cup Effect? Pengaruh Piala Dunia Terhadap Pergerakan Indeks Saham Gabungan Bursa efek Indonesia

Sepak bola bukan hanya olahraga paling populer dunia. Sepak bola telah mempengaruhi berbagai aspek kehidupan manusia, termasuk sector ekonomi. Penelitian ini bermula dari penelitian sejenis yang dilakukan oleh Kaplensky dan Levy (2010). Kaplansky dan Levy menemukan fakta unik bahwa setiap penyelenggaraan Piala Dunia berdampak pada penurunan return bursa Amerika Serikat sebesar -2,58%. Penulis mencoba menyelidiki “world cup effect” yang diduga juga terjadi di bursa Indonesia, mengingat sepak bola adalah olahraga paling populer di Negara ini. Menggunakan total 12 model ekonometri dan data dari 2175 hari transaksi dari tahun 2002 hingga 2010, ditemukan pengaruh negative dalam semua model yang diuji. Tetapi hasil ini tidak didukung dengan nilai -t yang signifikan sehingga tidak dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa Piala Dunia berpengaruh terhadap return Indeks Harga Saham Gabungan di Bursa Efek Indonesia.
Soccer is not just the most popular sport in the world. Soccer has affected all of human aspect, including economies. This research starts from related topics started by Kaplansky and Levy (2010). Kaplansky and Levy found unique fact that every world cup has negative impact to the return of US stock market about -2,58%. Writer try to discover the same “world cup effect” that maybe can be happened at Indonesian capital market, because soccer is the most popular sport in Indonesia. Using total of 12 econometrics model and data from 2175 transaction day between 2002-2010, writer found the same negative effect. Unfortunately, this result is not supported by highly significant -t scores. In conclusion, there are no significant effects from world cup to the return of Indonesian capital market.
