EVALUATION OF TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT IN PT. SARI HUSADA

This research report is an empirical study aimed at investigating the extent of Total Quality Management (TQM) in PT. Sari Husada. It was based on some of the basic components of Total Quality management which include: total quality control, employee training, employee services and compensation, employee empowerment through self-managed teams, consumer services and supplier services, which were used in the examination of their relationships to consumer driven quality standards. However, to evaluate TQM from the product point of view, statistical quality control methods were employed.

Using Statistical quality control method, analysis was made on the PT. Sari Husada Full Cream Milk Powder (FCMP). Where milk nutrients attributes were examined by the use of p charts that showed each attribute's conformance to the quality standards set by PT. Sari Husada. All the nutrient attributes proved to conform to the these quality standards with some variations in both the upper control regions and the lower control regions.

In finding out the relationship between the dependent variable (consumer driven quality standards) and the independent variables (total quality control, employee training, employee services and compensation, employee empowerment through self-managed teams, consumer services and supplier services), multiple regression analysis was used. Using a 5% significant level, total quality control, employee services and compensation, supplier services had a significant and positive influence on the consumer driven quality standards with correlation coefficients of 0.23%, 0.24%, 0.24% receptively. While employee training, employee empowerment through self-managed teams and consumer services had no significant influence on consumer driven quality standards. However, their correlation coefficients towards the consumer driven quality standards were 0.1%, 0.05% and 0.15% respectively.

When all the independent variables (total quality control, employee training, employee services and compensation, employee empowerment through self-managed teams, consumer services and supplier services) were considered together as a group, proved significantly to influence consumer driven quality standards. This indicated existence of total quality management in PT. Sari Husada where the degree of TQM can be seen through the correlation coefficients of each independent variable above. It was also noticed that, Human resource management could influence consumer driven quality standards, when employee training, employee services and compensation, employee empowerment through self-managed teams, are taken together as a group.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti tingkat Total Quality Management (TQM) di Perusahaan PT. Sari Husada. Penelitian ini berdasar dari komponen- komponen pokok dari TQM ya itu total quality control, employee training, employee services and compensation, employee empowerment through self-managed teams, consumer services dan supplier services yang digunakan untuk menguji hubungannya kepada consumer driven quality standards. Namun demikian, pengujian TQM dari sisi produk, metoda statistical quality control digunakan.

Dengan menggunakan Statistical quality control metoda ini, analisa dilakukan pada PT. Sari Husada Full Cream Milk Powder (FCMP). Dimana gizinya diuji dengan menggunkan p charts yang menunjukan kesesuaian produk ini dengan standar kualitas yang suciah ditentukan PT. Sari Husada. Semua nutrient attributes terbukti bahwa sesnai dengan standar kualitas produk yang sudah ditentukan perusahaan dengan variasi di daerah upper control limit dan lower control limit.

Untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari total quality control, employee training, employee services and compensation, employee empowerment melewati self-managed teams, consumer services and supplier services, kepada consumer driven quality standards, analisa regresi berganda di gunakan. Total quality control, employee services and compensation, supplier services memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap consumer driven quality standards pada keyakinan 5 persen. Correlasi coefficient untuk Total quality control adalah 0,23%, employee services and compensation: 0,24%, dan supplier services: 0,24% . Employee training, employee empowerment through self-managed teams and consumer services terbukti bahwa tidak memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap consumer driven quality standards. Akan tetap correlasi coefficientnya adalah employee training: 0.1%, employee empowerment through selfnianaged teams: 0.05% dan consumer services: 0.15%. Kalau total quality control, employee training, employee services and compensation, employee empowerment through self-managed teams, consumer services dan supplier services diuji bersama sama sebagai kelompok, memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap consumer driven quality standards. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa ada TQM yang derajatnya bias dilihat dari correlation coefficient untuk masing- masing variabel pengaruh.

Bisa diketahui juga bahwa, Managemen sumber daya manusia memengaruhi consumer driven quality standards kalau employee training, employee services and compensation, employee empowerment melalui selfmanaged teams digunakan besama sama sebagai kelompok.
