This study is an empirical investigation of the effect of education on income of self-employed farmers using the Cobb-Douglas production function approach. To relate farmer's education and farmer's income, the concept of economic productivity is applied.
Findings show that the level of education is positively and significantly related to farmer's
income and farmer's productivity. The effect is correspondingly reduced for less schooling and correspondingly enhanced for more schooling. This may reflect the higher level of education that may he required for effective utilization of modern agricultural practices. Completion of elementary education seems to be a minimum threshold for education to have any significant effect. Tests a farmer's productivity show that differences in educational level of farmers in this study lead to differences in farm productivity.
