Credit is an important element in agricultural production systems. It allows producers to satisfy the cash needs, induced by the production cycle which characterizes agriculture: preparation, planting, cultivation and harvesting of the crops are typically done over a period of several months in which very little cash revenue is earned, while expenditures on materials, purchased inputs and consumption need to be made in cash. The purpose of this research is to find the effect of micro credit on agriculture productivity (shown by total liquid assets on income). The models we use in this research are divided into two groups (output supply equation for liquidity-constrained households and output supply equation for liquidity-unconstrained households). We use Probit methods to find the factors that affect households to be constrained by liquidity. Using linear regression we find how total liquid assets (enlarged by credit) affecting income level. Output supply equation for liquidity-constrained households estimated with linear regression involves the following variables: total liquid asset, number of adults (own labor), number of dependents (total family member), land, capital, education and farm experience. The specification for the liquidity-unconstrained households is similar except for the first three variables.
The result of Probit model indicate several independent variables affecting households to be constrained by liquidity. Those variables are land, capital, education, total liquid asset and credit failure (dummy). About 64 percent of the farmers in the study area were constrained by liquidity. The result of linear regression on output supply equation for liquidity-constrained households shows that total liquid asset significant affecting income level. This result indicate that one additional rupiah of total liquidity asset (enlarged by credit) yielded 1.34 rupiah of additional gross value of output. Credit has statistic significant affecting agriculture productivity on liquidity-constrained households. Key words: micro credit, liquidity-constraint, productivity, agriculture and probit model.
