Indonesian Net Exports Analyisis and Its J Curve Effect

This study is intended to analyze the Indonesian net exports condition and its J curve effect. The research is about factors influencing Indonesian net exports condition and the existence of a J curve effect.

Since the Indonesian economy has been hit by a crisis starting with a foreign exchange depreciation to almost all of the currency in the world particularly US$, and the components of net exports are exports and imports, therefore Indonesian currency (rupiah) depreciation effecting them.

This thesis uses time series data quarterly during the period of the year 1977 until the first quarter of 1998. The number of observations are 85 with one dependent variable which is net exports and seven independent variables which are real exchange rate, ratio of Indonesian export unit value by average of Japan and USA consumers price indexes, ratio of average real income of Japan and USA by average real income of G-5 (France, Germany, UK,USA, Japan), taste for exports, ratio of Indonesian imports unit value by Indonesian consumers price index, ratio of Indonesian real income by the average real income of ASEAN countries, taste for imports.
