Indonesia has huge banks, but many of them have bad performance. Bank Indonesia by Arsitektur Perbankan Indonesia (API) hope those banks can merge to trigger operation efficiency so they can produce profit. The objective of this research is to understand the influence of bank combination. Sample get from bank merger from 1999 to 2003. Those banks being compared before and after merge. Efficiency score are resulted from Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), which uses deposits and capital as input, besides loan and profit as output. Bank profitability, which proxy by profit margin (PM), is counted by using variable assets, CAR, and LDR. This research concludes bank combination in Indonesia have good influence increasing profitability, but make bad influence for efficiency. The amounts of deposits, capital, loan, profit, and assets increase after merge. Nevertheless, ratio CAR and LDR does not change significantly.
