RANCANGAN DATA MODEL UNTUK PENGIMPLEMENTASIAN DATABASE PADA JOB-ORDER COSTING SYSTEM: Studi Kasus di P.D. Selamat Percetakan

Dalam lingkungan bisnis yang kompetitif, manajer harus mengambil keputusan harga yang akurat. Konsumen akan berpindah begitu saja ke pesaing bila mereka dikenakan harga yang tidak akurat untuk produk yang mereka konsumsi. P.D. Selamat adalah perusahaan yang menyediakan solusi cetakan dan desain grafis. Produk-produk mereka unik karena diproduksi berdasarkan pesanan konsumen. Karena produknya unik, setiap produk pasti diproses dengan cara yang berbeda-beda. Dengan menggunakan costing system yang baik, manajemen seharusnya dapat menentukan kos setiap produk dengan akurat. Produk yang dihasilkan dari proses yang canggih pasti memiliki kos yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan produk yang dihasilkan dari proses yang lebih sederhana. Tetapi, sayangnya, sejak didirikan pada tahun 1990, P.D. Selamat belum memiliki metode yang tepat untuk menentukan kos produk. Itu adalah masalah pertama. Kos produk ditentukan dengan cara yang sederhana dengan menambah upah harian tenaga kerja dengan kos pembelian bahan baku. Seharusnya keputusan harga tidak didasarkan pada perhitungan tersebut atau konsumen akan berpindah ke kompetitor. Masalah kedua adalah keputusan harga. Kos produk bukan merupakan pertimbangan utama untuk penentuan harga di P.D. Selamat. Harga terutama dipengaruhi oleh kebijakan manajemen berupa perkiraan harga pasar untuk produk sejenis yang disediakan pesaing. Masalah ketiga adalah pemanfaatan infrastruktur IT (komputer dan LAN). Infrastruktur IT yang tersedia belum dimanfaatkan secara efektif. Sebagai metode dalam skripsi ini, studi kasus mengharuskan peneliti untuk menganalisis masalah di P.D. Selamat dan mengusulkan solusi untuk menyelesaikan masalah. Berdasarkan uraian masalah di atas, ada dua solusi yang akan dihasilkan penelitian ini sebagai tujuan penelitian. Solusi pertama adalah mendesain job-order costing system. Dan solusi kedua adalah mendesain data model berdasarkan sistem pada solusi pertama, yang akan menjadi rancangan database yang akan dikembangkan kemudian untuk memberdayakan infrastruktur IT yang tersedia.

In competitive business environment, managers should make accurate pricing decision. Customers will switch easily to competitors if they charged with inaccurate price for product that they consumed. P.D. Selamat is a company which provides printing and graphic design solution. Their products are unique since it produced based on customers order. Since its unique, each product must be processed in different manner. By a good costing system, management should be able to determine cost of each product accurately. Products that resulted from sophisticated process must have higher cost than those resulted from simpler process. But, unfortunately, since established in 1990, P.D. Selamat has not had proper method to determine product cost. That is the first problem. Product cost is determined in simple manner by adding daily workers wage to material acquisition cost. Amount that resulted from this method must be inaccurate. Pricing decision should not be made based on it or customer will switch to competitor. The second problem is about the pricing decision. Product cost is not main consideration for pricing decision in P.D. Selamat. Price is mostly influenced by managements judgments about expected market price for similar product that provided by competitors. The third problem is the utilization of IT infrastructure (computer and LAN). IT infrastructure provided has not used effectively.As method in this research, case study requires researcher to analyze the problem in P.D. Selamat and propose solutions to solve the problem. Based on the problems described above, there are two solutions that will be resulted from this research as the objective. First solution is to design job-order costing system. And the second solution is to develop data model based on job-order costing system from the first solution, which will be design of database that developed later to utilize the provided IT infrastructure.
