Kawasan Hutan AB (Afgheschreven Bosch) di wilayah Desa Kepek menjadi salah satu hutan negara yang telah dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat selama bertahun-tahun untuk budidaya tanaman semusim. Hutan AB di Desa Kepek telah diajukan untuk dijadikan hutan desa sebagai wujud pengelolaan hutan negara yang legal. Penelitian ini mempunyai tujuan untuk mengetahui sejarah, pengelolaan dan kelembagaan Hutan AB. Penelitian dilakukan di Desa Kepek Kecamatan Saptosari Kabupaten Gunungkidul Yogyakarta menggunakan metode dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik pengambilan data diperoleh dengan cara observasi, wawancara dan studi dokumen. Hasilnya kemudian dianalisis menggunakan analisis Miles and Huberman (1984) dengan aktivitas reduksi data, penyajian data dan kesimpulan. Berdasarkan dari hasil penelitian dapat diketahui proses pengajuan Hutan AB menjadi hutan desa mengalami kendala karena ditemukan adanya perbedaan luas antara PAK (Penetapan Areal Kerja) dengan peta desa. Pengelolaan hutan yang dilakukan masyarakat di Hutan AB menggunakan pola agroforestri, masyarakat menanam tanaman semusim di sela-sela tanaman kayu keras. Pengelolaan hutan di Hutan AB dilakukan oleh sebuah lembaga kemasyarakatan bernama Lembaga Pengelolaan Hutan Desa (LPHD) Wono Jati. Pengelolaaan di Hutan AB terkendala dengan kurangnya ketertiban penggarap dalam memanfaatkan hasil hutan. Peran LPHD Wono Jati sangat penting kaitannya untuk mengontrol kegiatan di dalam kawasan Hutan AB.

The area of AB (Afgheschreven Bosch) forest in Kepek Village area becomes one of the state forests that have been used by the community for years for the cultivation of seasonal crops. AB forest in Kepek Village has been proposed to become the village forest as a form of legal state forest management. This research aims to discover the history, the management and forest institutional in AB forest. This research was conducted at Kepek Village Saptosari District Gunungkidul Regency Yogyakarta using the qualitative approach. The data collecting technique was taken by observation, interview and document study. The collected data then was analyzed by using the analysis of Miles and Huberman (1984) with data reduction activities, data presentation and conclusions. Based on the results of this research, it can be known that the process of the submission of AB soil into the village forest encountered obstacles because there was a wide difference between PAK (Establishment of the Working Area) and the village map. The forest management in AB soil by the community uses agroforestry pattern, in which people plant annual crops on the sidelines of hardwood crops. The forest management in AB soil is conducted by a community institution called Village Forest Management Institution (LPHD) Wonojati. The anagement inAB forest is constrained by the lack farmers order in utilizing forest product. The role of LPHD Wonojati is very important in controlling the activities in the area of AB forest.
