Formasi Diskursus dan Subjektivitas di Novel The Water Knife Karya Paolo Bacigalupi : Kajian Arkeo-Genealogi Foucault

Penelitian ini membahas tentang pembentukan dominan, pembentukan dan pengawasan subjek diskursif, dan perlawanan subjek terhadap diskursus dominan dalam novel The Water Knife karya Paolo Bacigalupi. Diskursus dominan mempengaruhi pola pikir manusia dalam menilai salah dan benar. Dominasi yang didukung dan diajarkan oleh berbagai institusi membuat manusia kehilangan identitas sebagai makhluk yang kritis. Oleh karena itu, metode arkeo-genealogi dipakai untuk membedah diskursus dan menganalisis pembentukan, pengawasan, ddan perlawanan subjek diskursif di dalam teks. Data yang berhasil dikumpulkan dari The Water Knife karya Paolo Bacigalupi dianalisis dengan metode arkeo-genealogi Foucault melalui dua tahapan: pembacaan arkeologi dan pembacaan genealogi. Pembacaan arkeologi digunakan untuk menganalisis pembentukan diskursus dengan melihat berbagai formasi diskursus yang membangunnya. Pembacaan genealogi digunakan untuk menganalisis pembentukan dan pengawasan subjek diskursif serta diskontinuitas diskursus dominan. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah ada empat formasi yang membentuk suatu diskursus, yaitu formasi objek diskursus, formasi penyampaian diskursus, formasi konsep diskursus, dan formasi strategi diskursus. Mekanisme pembentukan subjek diskursif dilakukan dengan empat tahapan, yaitu pemusatan individu dari masyarakat, pelatihan kontrol aktivitas pada tubuh, pengujian tubuh individu pada tingkatan tertentu, dan penciptaan subjek sebagai body-machine of discourse. Mekanisme pengawasan subjek diskursif dilakukan melalui tiga cara, yaitu pengawasan hierarki, penciptaan norma-norma, dan examination sebagai pengawasan intensif. Mekanisme pembentukan dan pengawasan diskursif menguatkan diskursus dominan menjadi suatu kerangka berfikir bagi Angel sebagai tokoh utama di novel The Water Knife karya Paolo Bacigalupi. Dampak dari diskursus dominan adalah perlawanan terhadap diskursus dominan. Ada dua cara perlawanan di novel, yaitu parrhesia sebagai sarana dikontinuitas diskursus dan the care of the self sebagai perlawanan diskursus dominan.

This research is conducted to elaborate discursive formations, the formation and surveillance of discursive subject, and the subject's struggle towards the discourse in Paolo Bacigalupi's The Water Knife. The discourse influences the frame thought of human in valuing what is right and wrong. Discourse that is supported and taught by various institution makes human lost their identities as critical being. Thus, the archeo-genealogy is used to disclose the discourse and analyze the formation, the surveillance and the struggle of discursive subject in the text. Data that is successfully collected from Paolo Bacigalupi's The Water Knife is analyzed using Foucault's acheo-genealogy method through two steps: archeology reading and genealogy reading. Archeology reading is used to analyze discursive formations by looking at various institutions that form it. Genealogy reading is used to analyze formations and surveillance of discursive subject and also discontinuity of dominance discourse. The result of this research is that there are four formations that form a certain discourse. They are object formation, enunciative formation, conceptual formation, and strategy formation. The formation of discursive subject is done though four steps, that is centering individual from society, training of control the activity of the body, testing individual's body in the certain degree, and creating subject as body-machine of discourse. The mechanism of surveillance discursive subject is done through three ways. Those are hierarchical control, norms forming, and examination as intensive control. The mechanism of discursive subject formation and surveillance strengthens the dominance discourse becomes frame thought for Angel as the main character in the novel The Water Knife by Paolo Bacigalupi. The effect of dominance discourse is the rebel against the dominance discourse. There are two ways in the novel, those are, parrhesia as the discourse discontinuity and the care of the self for against the dominance discourse.
