2017 | Skripsi | Ilmu KomunikasiABSTRACT In this present time, the social media has changed the way people communicate. It can shape our behaviour, thought, and communication towards other people. For some aspects, the social media has been our daily needs. Now, a new private social media has been introduced to user around the world. Path, which has a high popularity in Indonesia, offers a new way to express, interact, and sharing an information which contain a freedom in new media. Nevertheless, this kind of social media is not only as an expression medium for its user. Path also shape a power to create and influence the user behaviour through its features. One of the biggest segment of Path user is student. This research aims to describe the behaviour of student as a Path user or account owner. In order to observe their behaviour, researcher based its theory in Spradley’s etnoghraphy method as an underlying. Spradley’s method offer the use of informant as primary data source. In this research, there are 7 students from different university in Yogyakarta that will be involved as informants. Hence, the data gathering will be done through comprehensive interview. As a secondary data source, researcher relied on archive or document analysis. The result is there is three conclusion to depict the students behaviour in their daily use of Path. First, their media habit. They tend to use upload their moment on Path. Second, existensial motives. The student upload their activity in Path to show off their existence and to receive an affirmation from others. Third, the students use path to create their self image. This finding show us a fact of our modern university students when they share their activity on Path. So, further research can use this as an etnography note that will help them to understand the actual condition. Keywords: Path, Social Media, Etnography, Behaviour, Student
