Identitas Islam dalam Film:(Analisis Resepsi Identitas Islam dalam Film Ketika Mas Gagah Pergi)

2017 | Skripsi | Ilmu KomunikasiABSTRACT As Ayat-Ayat Cinta the movie gained its success in 2008, religious Islamic movies had rose to their fame once again. Islamic movies after Ayat-Ayat Cinta then were used as a new method of preaching, or “dakwah”. One of such movies is Ketika Mas Gagah Pergi the movie. Helvy Tiana Rosa as the writer of the movie-based novel and one of the movie initiators stated in the interview that Ketika Mas Gagah Pergi the movie was made to spread a better understanding of Islam identity. Using Stuart Hall‟s reception theory and Ting-Toomey‟s identity theory, this research is intended to explain audience‟s understandings of the identities shown in the movie and whether or not the understandings affect their identities. This research will find out the understandings of eight participants with different backgrounds. This research finds a variation of participants‟ understandings that the positions could not be determined using Stuart Hall‟s reception positions: dominant, negotiated and oppositional. Such varied understandings happened as the participants have different understandings of Islam. Other factors such as background, educational background, et cetera do not affect the understanding process significantly. There is no significant identity change happened to the participants. Islam identities shown in the movie are seen as affirmation of their belief. A significant identity change occurred only to one participant, while the others were only inspired by the identities shown. Keywords: reception, Islam identity,Ketika Mas Gagah Pergi the movie.
