ABSTRACT This research was done with the purpose of knowing how news management in BaleBengong, a Balinese online community media, did the media advocacy to the “Bali Tolak Reklamasi” social movement in the wake of Benoa Bay reclamation issue in Bali. This topic was chosen as some points were found indicating that the BaleBengong community media was supporting and advocating that aforementioned social movement. This research uses the case study methods, using the qualitative-descriptive data analysis approach. This approach was chosen as it places the researcher as the key instrument of this research, and may directly observe the research subject, which is the news management of the aforementioned community media. The data used were the results of direct observation done by the researcher, results of interviews done to the admins of BaleBengong, and secondary document data, which then, those three data will be analyzed through descriptive-triangulation to reach a conclusion of this research. The result shows that BaleBengong community media did not strictly follow how a general news management should be done. Instead, they used a non-formal approach to manage the news which emphasized on actuation and controlling process, rather than other processes such as planning and organizing. The result also shows that BaleBengong is not much affiliated to the social movement in their site, balebengong.net, as the site is much more open to citizen journalism content. However, BaleBengong shows more explicit support to the movement in their social media account, which is a part of the community media. With the results, it can be concluded that BaleBengong community media didn’t explicitly support the “Bali Tolak Reklamasi” social movement through their news management. But an implicit affiliation and support still exist within BaleBengong, proven by how they support the movement through their social media which is a part of the community media itself, and how they themselves nonformally supports the social movements which they believe it is the right thing to do. Keywords: community media, media advocacy, social movement.
