ABSTRACT This research intends to identify three things. First, keep track of local political contestation post orba (Idham Samawi era up to early Suharsono era) in Bantul district, looking at the political momentum and what is accompanying the historical process. Second, analyze the emergence of politics of kinship conducted by the Samawi regime to become the dominant discourse. Discourse on the politics of kinship are discussed its emergence until the process of becoming hegemony. Third, identify the fall of the regime of Samawi on the 2015 Elections marked the end of political hegemony. In this section, will be discussed the reasons underlying the Samawis regime's defeat and how contestation between discourse that ultimately makes the regime Samawi lose. This research uses the theory of hegemony of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe to see the process of hegemony which took place at the same time clarifying the relationship of power committed by the regime of Samawis on the structure of local politics in Bantul.
