Advokasi Melalui Media Sosial Instagram:(Studi kasus Akun Instagram Komunitas Ketimbang Ngemis Yogyakarta

ABSTRACT Increasing number of elderly in Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) and determining Yogyakarta as home for the highest number of elderly raises new issue and problem in fulfilment their life’s needs. The fact shows that most elderly are trapped in poverty and have to work in fulfil their daily needs. The way in fulfil their daily needs which is working rather than begging become the issue that is raised by community “Ketimbang Ngemis Yogyakarta”. Appreciating and sharing information to the public on how the elderly fulfil their life, which is called advocacy process, is the main purpose of this community. The interesting point is how this community apply Instagram as their main media in advocacy gain the successfulness. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative in case study method. Moreover, this qualitative research uses phenomenology in case study to see what their perception is, what their action is, what their strategic planning is and what the respond from the respondents are. The data collection is gathered by interviewing the important respondents and observing the Instagram account of the community and other sources from literature review. Thus, the writer analyses the data descriptively that depict the advocacy experience of the community. The result of this research shows that advocacy which is applied by “Ketimbang Ngemis Yogyakarta” community could be identify as advocacy through the basic elements of the advocacy. Then, the advocacy strategic could be identified as normative advocacy, non-litigation advocacy strategic, and persuasive advocacy strategic. These three strategies are supported by the use of media social Instagram and netizens’ support. Thus, this research yield many recommendations to improve and evaluate the advocacy that has done toward the community. The recommendations are identifying the pros and cons, applying other strategic alternatives, enhancing the intensity of the survey and uploads, and the last but not least is looking for other optional advocacy strategies.
