2016 | Skripsi | Ilmu KomunikasiABSTRACT Radio broadcast has high proximity in perspective of geography. It is because its medium’s character is only able to transmit audio wave to certain area. This limitation gives potential for radio stations to be local media with certain segment of audiences. Besides, it is undeniable that radio is the easiest medium to access. And also its audio character makes its messages very easy to understand. That is why there are still people who enjoy listen to radio broadcast despite many choices of media with newest technology are available. As local media, radio can function as source of alternative news for its targeted audiences. In Indonesia, news products mostly come from media conglomeration. So that the popular issues presented to public often focus on certain area, such as Jakarta. That is why the existence of local news media can be good alternatives for public in local areas, because they also have right to be informed about events and issues from their own hometown. The question is, do they still believe in local media when mainstream media have become too powerful? Currently, there are still too few researches about local radio as information media and its relation with local audiences. Whereas, empirically there are still local radio stations which serve informative function. On the other hand, there are still loyal listeners of local radio stations. The phenomenon of local radio stations which still broadcast news targeted to local public is interesting to be studied. So this research is written to study the audiences’ perspectives towards credibility of local radio news broadcast by examining the audiences of Radio Persatuan, a local radio station in Bantul.
