Menggugat Ruang Publik melalui Gerakan MAsyarakat Urban:(Studi kasus Gerakan Warga Berdaya Yogyakarta)

ABSTRACT Yogyakarta had a massive physical and social changes. This change is seen in over the function of the spatial space. For the citizens of the city, this change is considered to change the identity of the city becoming metropolitan. Various efforts protest posted on the government because of neglect in maintaining public interest. One of them is Warga Berdaya who call themselves as 'citizens' initiatives'. This study seeks to dissect the dynamics of activism through the formulation of the question How to understand Warga Berdaya as a phenomena of social movement? The methodology that used in the study is a qualitative case study with data collection techniques; in-depth interviews, observation and study of literature. The concept that used in the study is mode of social capital Putnam's for measuring internal productivity movement and the convergence of two major currents perspectives in the study of the new social movements; resource mobilization theory and the theory of identity-oriented. Broadly speaking, the findings obtained; Warga Berdaya not merely be seen as a movement which mobilizes capital in large numbers, but in it there is an emotional aspect includes collective identity and solidarity that became the basis of the movement of each actor. Warga Berdaya is elaborating the weakness of resource mobilization theory are not able to discuss this phenomenon comprehensively. In connection with the second theory, Warga Berdaya do not have a single identity, yet complex and full of conflict of interest. The author concludes Warga Berdaya could be treated as a reflection of the contemporary individual cultural rebellion against the increasing mechanization of the state control system, as well as the realization and confidence in the community. Warga Berdaya is an alternative to the new social movements that are unusual in modern society based on the spirit of voluntaristic and reproduced organically by residents. In the perspective of contemporary new social movements, Warga Berdaya is a 'mirror reflection' of the image of a new society, the creation of motion is running. Therefore, this movement indicates the need for a new paradigm of collective action, an alternative model of society and culture, and a new self-awareness of the community about their future.
