Perbandingan Kebijakan Pariwisata Korea Selatan Pasca Mers dan Singapura Pasca Sars

ABSTRACT Since the last few decades tourism industry has transformed significantly, this is due to the important role of tourism in economic development in various countries. Many countries in recent years placed serious work into tourism sector after tourism appeared as one leading sector to earn foreign currency, employment creation, and poverty alleviation. As a country with a highly developed tourism sector, Singapore and South Korea have to face the tremendous crisis which lead to the massive damage on tourism sector. At the beginning of 2003 and 2015, Singapore and South Korea struck by similar pandemic. SARS spreading immediately in Singapore and South Korea with similar experience with MERS pandemic. Huge losses experienced by the two countries is not only felt in the health sector, but also the tourism sector, economy, and public psychological problems. After comprehend the significance of the tourism industry to the economy of South Korea and Singapore, the authors see the urgency to research efforts to implement the policy of each country in order to restore tourism sector after the outbreak of disease such as SARS and MERS, ie: increasing the number of tourists back. This research is interesting because both countries have similar level of economic progress, in addition, comparison between MERS virus and SARS is possible because both diseases have similar model. By comparing two countries steps in overcome the impact of the outbreak on the tourism sector through government policy, it is crucial to understand why tourism policy adopted by one country can be more successful compared to the other tourism policies in the other country. Main issues in this essay is written to compare the success of tourism policy of the two countries after the pandemic. The success rate of each country will be measured through indicators of progress are summarized in the tourism Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (CCTI) formally issued by the World Economic Forum (WEF) to measure the competitiveness of a country in terms of tourism in 2007.
