Analisis Resepsi Khalayak terhadap Buku Kumpulan Cerpen Saksi Mata Karya Seno Gumira Ajidarma

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the interpretation of the audience towards short stories in Seno Gumira Ajidarma’s Short Stories Compilation Saksi Mata. In addition, this study also aims to determine the factors that build interpretation of the audience towards short stories in Seno Gumira Ajidarma’s Short Stories Compilation Saksi Mata and understand how exactly the message in the short stories. This research is a qualitative research method of ethnography. The subjects were audience who read the works of Seno Gumira Ajidarma, with different intensity each. Although they have different intensity, but each subject in general have an insight about the works of Seno Gumira Ajidarma and understand the texts. The study focused on audience reception analysis of Short Stories Compilation Saksi Mata. The data obtained by observation and in-depth interviews. The results showed that: (1) different audience interpret the stories differently anyway. This shows that the audience has its own power of understanding text so that text producers can not impose a specific meaning to the audience, (2) the factors that build the interpretation of the audience are more inclined to insight and intellectuality rather than economic factors and social classes, personal experiences and other factors such as family and the environment is also influential, (3) observed audience receives the messages in the short stories as a reference to the factual history.
